Audubon Sharon

The story behind the video...

Audubon Sharon is nestled in a small town in Northwest Connecticut, right in the middle of nowhere to a Jersey girl like me. Little did I know that I would have an unforgettable experience that I still think about almost everyday.

I worked for the most inspiring and encouraging people who gave their all on a daily basis. With a small staff, and a mountain of work to complete each day including planning education events, the daily care of resident raptors, the duties of running the animal rehab, answering questions of patrons who come through the door, planning fundraising events, and managing the vast property, there was never a down moment. This internship was more than a 9-5 job, it was what I lived and breathed that summer. I woke up with a smile on my face everyday because I loved what I did and who I worked with.

I made a short video to commemorate my time there, although it doesn’t do it justice. This internship changed my perspective on where I want to head with my career. I have never felt more in my element or such a sense of purpose then working with the animals in the rehabilitation clinic and teaching the children in camp about the wonders of wildlife. Nothing beats seeing baby birds in a freshly cleaned cage that you cleaned yourself, or seeing a child’s face light up seeing a hawk up close for the first time, or releasing an owl you helped raise from a hatchling.

To conclude, thank you from the bottom of my heart to the staff and volunteers at Audubon Sharon for being such an inspiring group to work with.
